Savannah

Every year since we've been married, Carson and I take a trip to a neat city and enjoy all that city has to offer. We've been to New York, San Francisco/Napa/down the Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur, Annapolis, and Charleston. Last weekend we commemorated six years of being married and my birthday weekend by packing our bags and heading to Savannah...sans baby!

It was tough to leave the little guy for the first time but we knew that he would be in great hands and we were excited to explore a new place together again. Savannah is a great weekend trip. It only takes five hours to get there from Raleigh and is full of beautiful sights, interesting history and de-licious southern cusine! It was so peaceful walking through many of Savannah's beautiful squares, eating lunch under old spanish moss covered oaks and watching boats float by on the river. We loved touring the antebellum historic homes, visiting "The Book" Shop (devoted to John Berendt's New York Times Best Seller and Clint Eastwood's adapted movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil ), and seeing the city via trolley. We also did some sampling at Moonriver Brewery, had several interesting conversations with some colorful locals and allowed ourselves to get spooked on a ghost tour (did you know Savannah is allegedly the most haunted city in the country!?). The food was easily our favorite part of the trip, however. Paula Deen did not dissapoint at her famed restaurant Lady and Sons, serving up a divine array of southern favorites that included fried chicken, butter beans, macaroni and cheese casserole, and collard greens (just to name a few!). Brunch at Soho South was also a highlight!

We were only in Savannah a few days but we managed to pack a lot into our little trip. And Hudson had the best time with his Nana and Grand Chuck. Aunt Andi even came down from Asheville to spend the weekend with him. As much fun as Carson and I had, we were so ready and excited to see Hudson on Sunday. We couldn't wait to kiss those cheeks!!
